Lovely 27 Angels In My Class On A Sunday

This year, I was blessed with 27 angels plus 2 big angels.

What? Angels? Yes, my class have 27 children and to me they are angels ranging from 7-10 years old. The first day is always the best because they are quiet and observing me very much. Am I strict? Am I scary? Am I mean? Am I nice? I see those questions on their face the first day. They are quiet and behave too!

On our first meeting, I was early because I am excited! It’s always exciting on the first day, not knowing what to expect, I guess. The boys and girls in my class always turn out good.

Before the bell rings, there was a parent with two kids. One will be in my class who happens to be younger and the other one is a 7th grade who would like to volunteer. Although, I ask her if she wants to volunteer and get some community service and she was just beaming with her big smile. Besides, it is also good for her little sister to see her big sister in the same room with her. I am blessed to have two volunteers. The other one who is my daughter because I dragged her into this for years, leaving her no option but to come. LOL!

I told my daughter to show the new volunteer where the office is and my daughter is now beaming because she gets to play big sister! That was fun to see that look on her face.

We started with a prayer as usual and showed them how to make the sign of the cross, if ever they forget. They are kids! Of course, they forget. I also forget! That means, I can be a kid sometimes.
Since, it is our first meeting, we introduce ourselves to each other. I prepared each a name and gave it to them to display on their desk like they are someone special or a business person who usually put their name tags on their desk. The truth is: I need the name tags to help me with their names. LOL!

On their name tags, I put each a sticker and they all love that idea! Every kid loves stickers, who doesn’t?

First day is always chaotic but we did good this time. My two big angels pass the books to the little angels. We get to check the first few pages of the book which consists of prayers. Then we begin with the first chapter of the book – Welcome lovely angels!

We talk about our family and our parish like what family we belong and parish we belong. My two big angels really helped the 27 little angels write their first answer – their last name! Some are having trouble with spelling and the two big angels were quick to help them.

I read a short story from the book about Zacchaeus, or Zaccheus who was a chief tax-collector at Jericho. In the story, he arrived before the crowd who were going to meet with Jesus, who was passing through Jericho on his way to Jerusalem. He was short in stature. Knowing so,  he will be unable to see Jesus through the crowd (Luke 19:3) so he ran ahead and climbed a tree along Jesus' path. When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up into the branches, addressed Zacchaeus by name, and told him to come down. Zacchaeus quickly came down to meet Jesus and invited Jesus to his house. He even promised to pay back the money he collected from the people.  A repentance… And Jesus saw that as he intended to visit his house. The crowd was shocked that Jesus, a religious teacher/prophet, would sully himself by being a guest of a tax collector.

And to enhance our welcome lesson, I ask them to go around and shake hands with everyone. No words, just a smile and handshake and everyone glows because they love to socialize. Is this the social generation?

That God doesn’t look at your sins but by the repentance from your heart. Everyone did just that, shaking hands with no idea who they are shaking hands with. Does it matter? The angels were happy and that Is what matters on this one fine Sunday with 27 little angels and 2 big angels who came to share the love of Christ in many different way!

One miracle I see today. One girl was crying. She was shy, her mom said. I told her, that’s okay because I am shy too but with God, I forget my shyness. When it’s time to shake hands, she got up, shake hands with everyone and went home smiling!

Till next Sunday again…

October 8th will be the Release of The Book of Hades

I went to Barnes and Noble bookstore today to find some good books to read. It was around 9:30 in the evening and they close at 10. That means, I have half of an hour to roam around, pick some books, pay for them, and go home. But as soon as I came in, there were books by the door on sale and I scan with my eyes to see if there is anything worth buying. I lost a minute or two just looking at the sale items. Maybe more than 2 minutes. Oh my! Books can really make me forget time but just can't stop doing it because I am a book addict, I admit.

I went straight to the fiction section and quickly scan with my eyes for the second time any books that are worth my money and time. You see, books take time and money. That is why you need a good brain to think before buying a book. That way, you don’t end up with a hole in your pocket, trying to find some money that is not there. You know what I mean? Keep digging in one’s pocket when there is nothing to dig would lead to a pocket of holes. The fabric wears and tears because your hand is using force to find money that is invisible unless you got magic skills. You know how it is when you are hungry and happen to have no money to buy a cheeseburger, you wait outside hoping to see someone you know and beg for a dollar? Yes, a dollar is enough for a cheese burger if you are in McDonald but a book never costs a dollar unless it is on a yard sale. I found one I like “Asian Healthy Secrets” for $6. It is on sale and I only have $20. It’s a hardbound book that is small yet full of short sayings that make you feel good. Maybe it’s worth buying, I thought. Maybe the amazing words written in this book will make me rich so I have the money for buy more books! Well, words can be powerful at times, aren’t they? My $20 is all I have to make the most of this book shopping. I am not even sure if it’s enough to buy me the book I am hoping to purchase this time. Then next to the aisle is this little yellow book about reflexology. Let me see if the price is right. Oh my, it cost $3.99 for this tiny book. In it are ways to relieve pain and to attain better health with pressing those points. It seems to be an interesting book. What better way to be free from pain, no medication needed and all natural? This might be a good deal for the price. At least, I would be healthy and pain free. But then I remember my friend who told me about a book that is not only good to read but full of twists, according to him. The story is about Annabeth and Percy  who tumbles into a pit leading straight to the Underworld, do their part and escape?. My purpose tonight is to find that book. Hmmm… I am trying to remember the title of the book. Yes, it is fun and full of excitement because it’s a fiction book, my favorite books to read. Oh my, I am losing time here. Let me check my watch. It says 9:50 pm. I got 10 minutes to spare or should I just forget about it and buy the cheapest book I found just now? Reflexology. No. I have to look for that book. What was that book again? Oh no, I forgot the title.

Rushing and panting, stressed and panicking, I went to the fiction aisle for teens. Oh no, it’s not here. Maybe it will be in the young readers section, holding my breath, as if time will stood still, I look at my watch and it is already 9:55 pm. Suddenly, the voice on the loudspeaker came on saying: “The time is 9:55 pm. The store will be closed at 10:00 pm.’’ Please let there be enough time, I pray….. I looked all over the store for help. Unfortunately I could not find a store helper. I wondered if all of them were gone except for maybe a cashier or two. Then, as I blankly stare for a minute in despair, my eyes caught a book. It was standing sideways but the title was perfectly clear, as if making sure I can see it. It was the only one and it was the one I am looking for. I ran with all my might, as if to win a race, to grab the book and pay for time is fighting against my opportunity to own this book. I would not allow opportunity to slip away for the last time, with the last minute I have, I grab the book titled “The House of Hades” without thinking, not looking at the price and sprint across the aisle to the front cashier. Put down my book and wait for the bill. The cashier scans the book, looks at me and said “$21.44 total”. I was dumbfounded. This can’t be real. I only have $20. No! I can’t leave without this book. I have to have it! Noooooooo! My mom was shaking me, sweat raced out through my pores, like it was summer on a heatstroke. I was unable to get up because my mom’s body bends close to me like she was almost hugging me. I said “Where is my book?” What book? She asks me back. The House of Hades book, I just purchase it but my money wasn't enough to pay the total including tax. At that time, my mom burst into LOL, saying calmly “Honey, it was a dream.” The book won’t be released till October 8th, remember?

Discovery Channel Learning 3D with sounds View Master Review

My daughter was doing her Christmas shopping and went to the toy section to look for toys that are cool to show and tell in school. I let her pick a few toys to compare price and functionality for she can only buy one. It took time to decide but it’s alright. This is a time for her to learn decision making. Not just making decisions but a good one for she only has enough money to spend for everyone in her lists. She decided to purchase Discovery Channel View Master as part of her shopping lists. There are more toys she wants to get but buying toys has always been a good training for her spending wisely. She looks at the price, read the directions and finally evaluate which one would be worth buying.

The view master comes in nice color combination and stylish. The difference with this view master is having sounds, explaining about the picture and in 3D images. It is a completely sensational 3D learning experience to show and tell in school for little kids. It is amazing experience to peek inside, see eye popping 3D images and hear cool sound effects for the little curious learner. The child will have fun in this view master while learning interesting facts about animals. The view master includes one learning sounds demo reel inserted and ready for exploring. You look into the view master, listen to the sounds and learn a few facts about the image shown.

You can look for more Discovery Channel Learning Sounds Reels with hundreds of exciting 3D images, sound effects and fun learning facts that works with the view master. It is also possible to use a regular reel for plain viewing, any learning reels and enjoy viewing the picture without the sound.

The view master has Reel Advance handle for changing the picture, a Sound Repeat button and Power/ Volume slider. It needs 2 AAA batteries which is included upon purchase and the design is neat, colorful and perfect for a child’s grip.

Now off with the view master commercial. We got home and she was excited to try the new reel, an extra purchase. She inserted it and was so eager to hear something when it never did. She pokes around it, hoping to make it work. Nothing happened. She asked me to check it for her and I did. I replace the battery, thinking it was the problem. You know how people try toys on the shelves all the time, testing it before buying. That was my first thought, the battery ran out from people trying before deciding. Nope. It still doesn’t work and my daughter is getting upset and agitated, she started to cry. Well, we might have bought a defective reel, I explained to her, and there is nothing we can do with the reel except to  return it. She felt disappointed but agreed to return it next time we go to the store. Whew! That was close to meltdown.

While I was putting it back to its original packaging, an ideal thought came. Maybe I should call their customer service and inquire what to do with this disappointing time for my child. The other line was pretty quick as the call went through. I explained to the customer service representative what happened. I am sorry for what happened, is the first thing she said after telling her about the toy. Isn't this a favorite line for all customer service representatives?  Maybe a cheat sheet is attached in front of them for quick reference to most situations, I thought. So, I kind of emphasized the disappointment my daughter felt, after buying and wanting to hear it for the first time. It was my cheat sheet too that is stuck in my head. Anyway, she was nice and accommodating. For this short conversation, the person in the other line look up at the item we purchased and made a decision right there to send us a $20 voucher to purchase a new one in place of the defective one. That was not bad. My only concern is that buying another reel and end up with a defective one is the same as having to call again and complain. But it’s not a bad deal to get more than the amount paid for this toy. So, there you go, if you have problems with your purchases, call the company and they sure would be happy to help get their customers back.
